The Problem

Many individuals experience emotional turmoil and mood fluctuations that can significantly impact their daily lives. The challenge lies in the absence of a convenient and effective tool for tracking, understanding, and managing these mood variations. Without such a solution, people struggle to gain insights into their emotional states, identify triggers, and make proactive changes to enhance their overall well-being.

Target Audience

Mood-O-Meter is designed for individuals of all ages who seek to improve their emotional well-being, manage stress, anxiety, and mood fluctuations, and build a supportive community around mental health.

Project Process

Competitive Analysis

Through my personal journey, I have realized that keeping track of my emotions and understanding my mood fluctuations can be quite challenging. Life's ups and downs often catch me off guard, and I have been searching for a reliable solution to help me gain better insight into my emotional well-being. During my quest, I explored several mood-monitoring apps available in app stores and found two standout options: MoodUp and Mood Journal.

After trying all of their features I summarized some pain points while using them, which became the opportunity areas for me to design the new app.

Interview

I interviewed 8 individuals aged 20-35 to understand how they manage their emotional well-being. We found that married individuals, particularly women with children, are emotionally self-aware and cook at home. Young students and professionals tend to dine out and are less aware of their emotional states. Our mood-monitoring app targets students and young professionals who may not have experience with self-reflective mood management.

Persona Development

Based on the research insights, I developed a primary persona demonstrating our target users, especially their goals and pain points.

Reframe Design Question

The above findings helped me further narrow down our problem statement, so I came up with our final design question:

How might we help individuals of all ages who seek to improve their emotional well-being, manage stress, anxiety, and mood fluctuations, and build a supportive community around mental health?

Product Structure

Based on the identified opportunity areas, I have established the product structure for Mood-O-Meter. On the home screen, users can easily access Tips, Notes, and Calendar. They can add notes to the Calendar and view their emotional journey in a list format. Additionally, users can customize their Settings by changing their name, password, payment details, and screen display.
